Arcenciel

Arcenciel - Lebanon

Humanitarian and Civic Services - 2010

Arcenciel is an apolitical Lebanese non-profit organization committed to assisting those living on the margins of society. Established in 1985, Arcenciel strives to sustain long-term development in three key areas: environmental (preservation of natural resources), social (safeguarding Lebanese pluralism), and economic (creating autonomy through financial independence). Its tripartite strategy covers: fieldwork - community rehabilitation based on identifying and evaluating people’s needs; referral centers offering specialized services, and finally, a public program and policy unit that services and supports the first two components of this strategy. Since its creation, Arcenciel has provided nearly 37 million services to more than 380,000 beneficiaries. On top, Arcenciel treats more than 80% of the hospital waste of Lebanon and more than 1,000 tons of solid waste a year. Arcenciel manages the 2km2 Jesuit “domaine de Taanayel” for sustainable agriculture. Additionally, Arcenciel promotes responsible tourism through its youth hostels and eco-tourism activities with more than 100,000 visitors a year.
