TAKREEM Foundation mourns Selection Board Member and wonderful Friend Edward Schwarz who passed away from a sudden heart attack, earlier this month. Edward or Edi has been the General Manager of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction heading the renowned international Awards competitions for sustainable design since it was launched in 2003. Prior to this, he was editor of a building trade magazine, a journalist for a daily newspaper, and editor-in-chief of a radio station, all in the region of Zurich, Switzerland.
In a moving message, the Holcim Foundation’s Executive Director Laura Viscovich said: “Edi touched the lives of many people across all five continents during his tenure as General Manager of the Holcim Foundation. Responsible for the Foundation’s inception in 2003, Edi’s dedication, energy, and passion helped develop the organization into a renowned and trusted global partner for architects, design and engineering professionals, and academics. He established the Holcim Awards as the world’s most significant competition for sustainable design, presided over almost 50 prize hand-over ceremonies, and edited some 40 publications related to sustainable construction”.
Edward’s unwavering commitment to his work and his gift for connecting people from all walks of life will remain his legacy.
