Mona Makram Ebeid: Advisor to the UN High-Representative

Mona Makram Ebeid, a TAKREEM selection board member, was appointed in February 2020 Advisor to the UN High-Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, due her role and experiences in intercultural and interfaith dialogue and promoting tolerance. Mona Makram Ebeid is scheduled to participate in the coalition's agenda in the coming period, and her support for youth initiatives aimed at promoting citizenship, accepting the other and rejecting violence. Makram Ebeid appreciated the efforts of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, which worked to benefit from the wisdom and experience of religious leaders from all communities in building peace and rejecting violence. Mona Makram Ebeid was a Member of Parliament in Egypt from 1990 to 1995. In addition to having served on the Committees of Education, Budget, and Foreign Affairs, she was also an advisor for the World Bank MENA region and a consultant to the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. Makram Ebeid is a graduate of Harvard University, the American University in Cairo and Cairo University. She teaches Political Science and Sociology at the AUC. Today, she holds the position of President of the Association for the Advancement of Education. She is also a Trustee of the Arab Thought Forum in Jordan, a Founding Member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, on the UNICEF Committee on Women, and a member of several academic institutions.
