Dr. Tarek Amin is a Senior Distinguished Consultant in Surgical Oncology at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi national studied medicine at Manchester University Medical School in the UK and trained in the UK, Canada and the USA. With a career spanning 40 years, Dr. Amin is one of the first Saudi surgeons to provide specialized surgical oncology services in Saudi Arabia. He has established numerous cutting-edge surgical programs, enabling complex procedures to be carried out in Saudi Arabia, instead of being referred to abroad. He has pioneered the introduction of cytoreductive surgery, hyper thermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Amin has also established a sophisticated intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) program for advanced cancer surgery in Saudi Arabia, where he has performed over 110 procedures to date, and this remains one of the largest programs in the region. He has also applied the combination of HIPEC and IORT in selected patients with advanced cancer, and he has the largest number of patients treated with this combination in the world. Dr. Amin has prioritized the development and training of regional talent, ensuring KFSH plays a leading role as a national and regional training center in the field of surgical oncology. He has been awarded the KFSH Honour Board for 'outstanding performance in the medical field of surgery, pioneering in Oncology surgery', Award from the King Faisal University (KFU), and MSA Grand Appreciation 2014 for being an inspiration in the field of research for KFU students. The doctor is a founding member of the combined sarcoma clinic and sarcoma service in association with oncology and orthopaedic departments.
